Mental Health Law Society

Mission Statement:

It is the mission of the Mental Health Law Society to serve as a progressive force in the legal community's efforts to serve individuals impacted mental health, behavioral, and substance use issues. To this end, our goals are threefold:

  1. to facilitate student awareness of and participation in discussions of current topics and controversies in mental health law and research
  2. to provide mental health advocacy through dissemination of accurate information about mental health issues impacting the legal community, both personally and through interactions with clients by impacting the direction of mental health law through lobbying and drafting model legislation
  3. to provide education and informational resources to the legal and professional community about how mental illness affects individuals' experiences in the courts and the health care system.
