Building Closures During the Holidays
The Law Building and Legal Research Center will be closed for operations from December 24- January 2, and will re-open on January 3, 2011 (see building hours).
Hagerty Library will be open December 27-30 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Law students may access Hagerty and the LRC during those times with their Dragon Card. Students wishing to check out circulating materials from the LRC may do so at the Hagerty circulation desk. A public safety officer will be in the library to ensure all patrons leave by 5 pm. All LRC operations including reference services and access to reserve items and the LRC conference rooms will be unavailable. ^ Back to Top

- RA Applications for 2011-2012
Drexel University Resident Assistants have a real impact on the lives of their residents. Students can make a difference in a resident's life by applying to become a resident assistant. These positions are open to graduate students and include free room, small stipend and a food plan depending on the campus location. The positions in the graduate dorms would work best for most interested law students as they begin July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Applications are open today through Friday, January 7, 2011. - Graduate Plus Loans
Any student interested in applying for a Graduate Plus Loan for the 2010-2011 academic year can still do so at www.studentloans.gov. Allow 2-3 weeks after you are approved for Drexel to certify your loan and the funds to begin disbursing.
OSA Announcements - Fall Exams
Fall exams have begun! As a reminder, if you did not attend an Exam4 workshop AND submit a practice exam, you are not eligible for tech support during your exams. Please also be sure to attend to Dean Oates’ email from December 2 regarding exam modes, as well as the Exam Period Procedures document, available at http://earlemacklaw.drexel.edu/studentLife/studentAffairs/policies_procedures/.
Students with take-home exams are strongly encouraged to read through the Student Guide to Take-Home Exams, available at http://earlemacklaw.drexel.edu/studentLife/studentAffairs/exam_software/, prior to taking their exam. Also, please note that “take-home rooms” will not be set aside for the exam period, and students who choose to take their exams in the building may use the Legal Research Center.
All students should note that the new process for retrieving anonymous Exam IDs can take several minutes, so please do not wait until the last minute to do so!

UPCOMING EVENTS: The Drexel School of Public Health will be hosting the Annual ‘Exploring Public Health Careers: Making the Most of Your Public Health Career’ event for students. The event will be held on January 6 from 3:45 to 7:30 p.m. in the New College Building. For more information including the complete schedule and to register to attend, go to www.publichealth.drexel.edu/phcareers Registration is required. Door prizes will be given away at the Networking Reception and every student that attends will receive a hot off the presses School of Public Health Career Guide.
The event is designed to connect students to established public health professionals and to educate students on how to make the most of their future public health careers. Both high level and junior level professionals will discuss public health careers with students. Dress for the event is business casual.

- Greater Philadelphia Area Law School Consortium’s (GPALS) 2011 Public Interest/Public Service Career Fair (PIPS) will be held on February 4, 2011 at Temple’s Center City Campus.
You may now register and bid for employers online by logging into the GPALS Symplicity site: https://law-gpals-csm.symplicity.com (Please note that this Symplicity site is different than the site you use for the law school’s Job Postings and On Campus Recruiting.) If you are a 1L student, or have not participated in a GPALS job fair in the past, you must register for the GPALS Symplicity site to participate. Instructions on how to register and bid on employers was sent to all students via email. Please read these instructions carefully. PIPS provides public interest and government employers with the opportunity to meet and interview law students interested in pursuing public sector careers. Legal Internships and Constitutional Course Credit in Washington, DC

The Legal Studies Institute provides the opportunity for law students to gain a first-hand look at the American legal system through guaranteed legal internships, a 3-credit constitutional law course, guest speakers and briefings, and professional development activities.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS Legal Internship: Participants will be placed in a 9-week summer associate position, clerkship or legal internship where they will work full-time and gain substantive experience in the legal profession. Placement sites include law firms, courts, public interest organizations and the legal departments of trade associations, corporations and government agencies. Briefings and Activities: Participants will attend private briefings at institutions of the judicial, legislative and executive branches and will meet with prominent judges, lawyers and judicial scholars. Last year’s class met with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and D.C. Federal Court of Appeals Judge Douglas Ginsburg.
Career Development Activities: Workshops will be held to help prepare participants for success in their law careers, and planned networking events will facilitate professional interaction. Attorney Mentor Program: Each participant will be matched with an experienced lawyer who will serve as a professional mentor during and after the program.
3-Credit Course on Constitutional Law: Participants will attend a course on Constitutional law for the first week of the Institute. The course is accredited by Ohio Northern University College of Law and is taught by leading legal scholars, including Professor John Baker of Louisiana State University and Dr. Roger Pilon of the Cato Institute. Housing: Students will live in fully-furnished apartments in downtown Washington, DC and are matched with other Institute participants. The apartments provide easy access to the DC metro transportation system.
Scholarships: 75% of students receive scholarship awards based on financial need and merit. Merit Scholarships are also available, providing $3,500 towards tuition and housing costs.
