EMSOL Places 6th in Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
Students Krysten Connon, Edward Grant, Heather Rose, and Michael Stanford, Jr. traveled to Washington, DC over President's Day weekend to compete in the the Mid-Atlantic regional round of competition in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings, arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. The team did exceptionally well, placing 6th in the initial rounds, beating out many excellent schools for the right to compete in the quarterfinals where they were edged out (with a split bench) for a place in the semi-finals. The team also placed 5th in the briefing competition, while team members Edward Grant and Michael Sanford, Jr. were singled out for individual awards with each placing in the "top oralist" category. ^ Back to Top
