Hispanic Bar Association Confers La Justica Award at Law School
March 11, 2009 — The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania honored Judge Juan R. Sánchez with the La Justicia Award during a ceremony March 11 at Earle Mack School of Law.
The association established the La Justicia Award in 2001 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the advancement of the Latino community and who exemplify those qualities of the human spirit to which we should all aspire.
Judge Sánchez was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 2004. He had served as a Judge of the Chester County Court of Common Pleas since his election in 1997. Previously, he worked with Legal Aid and the Public Defender's Office of Chester County.
Born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Judge Sánchez received his bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from City College of the City University of New York and his juris doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. There, he received the Benjamin R. Jones Award for his commitment to humanity and the law.
