Third Annual Transactional Law Meet -- Regional Competition Feb. 17
February 8, 2012 — The law school will host the Third Annual Transactional Law Meet this year, starting with a Mid-Atlantic Regional competition on Feb. 17.
The meet is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their deal-making skills, much as moot-court competitions test oral advocacy skills for future litigators.
In 2010, the law school hosted the inaugural Transactional Law Meet, which was the first of its kind anywhere to allow students to have their negotiating skills judged by seasoned transactional lawyers.
Interest in the meets during the first two years was so high that teams from many law schools were turned away.
This year’s expanded competition allows greater participation. Five regional competitions will be held across the country on Feb. 17. The other regional meets will be hosted by Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Mass., the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Ga., the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in Kansas City, Mo. and UCLA Law School in Los Angeles, Calif.
This year, the competition will require teams to hammer out an employment agreement for the CEO of a fictitious company. Teams will represent either the CEO or the company that is wooing her.
The final four teams from each region and four “wild card” teams will advance to the National Transactional Law Meet, to be held here on March 29 and 30.
At each level of competition, teams will be judged by seasoned transactional lawyers.
