List of LRC Services for Law Faculty
The Legal Research Center (“LRC”) provides faculty members with a variety of services. The services are listed below. Please contact your library liaison if you would like to make use of any of these services.
BePress: The LRC maintains each faculty member’s BePress page.
Bibliographies: The Research & Instructional Services librarians are available to draft annotated bibliographies on any research topic for faculty members.
Collection Development: The LRC will add materials to its collection that support faculty members’ research interests.
Course Reserves: The LRC will place items on course reserves for School of Law classes.
Current Awareness Services: The LRC provides faculty with access to various current awareness services, including BNA newsletters, SmartCILP, SSRN newsletters, and Lexis/Westlaw auto searches.
Database Training: The LRC provides training for faculty members and research assistants on individual databases.
Dean’s Faculty Research Fellow: During the Fall semester and Spring semester, the LRC hires a student to serve as the Dean’s Faculty Research Fellow and work on faculty research projects. The Faculty Research Fellow’s work is directed by the Research & Instructional Services librarians.
Desk copies of course books: The LRC will request desk or examination copies of textbooks and casebooks from publishers for faculty members
Faculty Publication Display: The LRC maintains the faculty publication display on the second floor. Faculty members who want to add items to the display should contact the LRC.
Faculty Research Assistants: The Research & Instructional Services librarians are available to train and otherwise work with faculty research fellows on research projects.
Legal Research Presentations: Research and Instructional Services librarians are available to give presentations on legal research topics in School of Law classes.
Library Liaison Program: Every faculty member is assigned a Research & Instructional Services librarian as a library liaison. The librarian can answer any questions from faculty members about LRC services or the LRC collection.
New Books: The LRC notifies faculty members when it receives titles that may be of interest to faculty members.
New Print and Electronic Resources: The LRC distributes to faculty members a monthly list of (1) new titles purchased by the LRC (2) new or updated electronic resources. E-resouce updates and an archive of new print title lists are also available on our New Resources page.
Obtaining Research Resources: The LRC will help faculty members obtain books, articles, and other materials needed for research purposes. If the material is the in the LRC collection, it will be checked out, delivered, and (upon request) renewed for the faculty members. If the materials aren’t in the LRC collection, the LRC will try to acquire the materials through interlibrary loan or document delivery.
Research Projects: Research & Instructional Services librarians and the Dean’s Faculty Research Fellow are available to work on faculty research projects.
Routing Electronic Periodicals: The LRC subscribes to several periodicals that can be distributed electronically to faculty members, including (1) Current Index to Legal Periodicals and (2) Supreme Court Preview.
Routing Print Periodicals: The LRC will route any print journal in the LRC’s collection to faculty members. Faculty members can contact their library liaison for a complete list of LRC print journal titles available for routing.
SSRN: The LRC submits articles to the SSRN database for faculty members.
Suggesting Additions to the LRC’s Collection: The LRC encourages faculty members to suggest materials to add to the LRC collection.
TWEN: The LRC provides faculty members with training and support on TWEN (The West Education Network).
